Who Theraphone Can Help

Theraphone is a service available to individuals over the age of 18 who would like to speak with a mental health professional about any variety of life issues. These may include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, work stresses or other concerns that can cause you to feel unhappy or stuck. Our counselors are experienced in helping you express your concerns and will work with you in transforming your unhappiness.

However, Theraphone is not an appropriate service for those who are feeling suicidal, have a serious mental illness, or are seeking medications. Please refer to the Resources section of this site for hotline numbers that can offer assistance with such issues.

For Those Who Are New to Therapy

Theraphone is a convenient, private way to talk to a therapist for the first time without any further obligation. And because Theraphone therapists are experienced professionals, they can help you understand how talking to someone might be helpful to you.

For Those Already in Therapy

Most professional mental health associations such as the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) recommend that people who are in therapy voluntarily see only one therapist at a time in the interest of receiving consistent mental health support. Therefore, Theraphone recommends against using this service if you are currently in therapy and are satisfied with this relationship. However, Theraphone will not deny service to callers who wish to speak with a Theraphone counselor.
